PACK LIGHT

PACK LIGHT

Have you ever crammed so much into your bags that the zipper was working overtime just to hold it all in?  Then you nearly dislocated your shoulder carrying them to the car?  That was you, right?  See, in the beginning, it seemed like a good idea, seemed efficient, logical even?  SURELY, one bag full of all the things is easier to manage.

Imagine this, pack only what is absolutely necessary for the trip, everything else stays behind.  You see, there’s an art to it, as it parallels to reality.  In life, we tend to pack away and carry things that are outdated and heavy, or cling to pieces that we’ve clearly outgrown.  Tirelessly holding on to things that no longer suit who you ARE or want to be or holding onto things you have no power to go back and change; you only stuff our bags more and more.

Slowly becoming too much to carry alone.  Leaving you with only a few choices; struggle tirelessly dragging your baggage from place to place; stay put because the weight is too much to carry, ; place the weight on someone else’s shoulders for temporary relief, as others have their own weights to bear.  Lastly, you could choose to toss a few things out and leave them behind...get lighter.

You can’t control everything on the journey but you can leave behind what no longer serves you.  Like all baggage, the more it weighs, the more it will cost you in the end.  The more it weighs, the harder you will have to work carrying it through life's hills and valleys.  The more it weighs, the longer it will take for you to reach your next destination.

So grab the necessities, toss in the things you love, the things that make you who you are.  Before long you’re in a new place humming the tune to Erykah Badu’s “Bag Lady” and you GET IT now…you really get it.  So, PACK LIGHT.

The ease of reading your writing feels like a natural conversation that converts words to imagery and ultimately a valuable message for life. Every entry is smooth and rich, flows with ease but not too fast. Like apple butter and molasses. Thank you.

This parallel is simply profound. As a person that’s been asked to carry many bags, both physically and metaphorically, I love this journal entry. No matter what side you find yourself in this wordplay, it hits close to home.
